Chelsea confident of signing Everton striker despite seeing £57m bid rejected by Josh Challies | July 31, 2016 Chelsea are increasingly confident that they will be able to strike a deal to bring Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku back to the club from Everton, according to The Daily Mirror. The Blues are keen to re-sign the prolific striker after his fantastic performances in the past two seasons with the Toffees, which came after impressive loan spells on Merseyside and with West Brom. Everton are reluctant to let their star-man leave but are accepting the player wants to leave Goodison Park, although their demands of £75m are huge and far bigger than the £57m bid Chelsea saw knocked back this week. Chelsea have already splashed £33m to bolster their attack this summer, bringing in Lukaku’s Belgian compatriot Michy Batshuayi from Marseille, but the Italian’s transfer business is far from complete. If Lukaku does move back to Stamford Bridge and Everton do not budge on their asking price, then the £75m fee would set a British transfer record fee and the forward would become the second-most expensive signing of the summer window world-wide; just behind Gonzalo Higuain’s recent switch from Napoli to Juventus.
